Spis, který o těchto otázkách a o svém životě složil krátce před smrtí a nazval Liber de temptatione cuiusdam monachi (O pokušení jednoho mnicha), přinášíme v této knize poprvé v českém překladu.
Abstact:
Otloh of St. Emmeram is considered one of the most remarkable literary figures in 11th-century Europe. This is primarily because his extensive literary oeuvre openly – and to an extent that was unusual during his era – recounts numerous details from his own life. He wrote about the physical, mental and spiritual tribulations he had to face, coming to terms with the doubts which rocked the very foundations of his existence: whether his life-shaping decision to become a monk was indeed the right path for him, doubts as to the nature of God, and even doubts as to God’s very existence. This book presents the first ever Czech translation of Otloh’s Liber de temptatione cuiusdam monachi (Book on the Temptation of a Certain Monk), written shortly before his death, which deals with these questions and aspects of the author’s life. The translation is accompanied by an introductory study giving details of Otloh’s life and his literary activities.
